A Tired Evening Turned into a Delicious Surprise
Living in Wuppertal but working in Düsseldorf means my days are long and exhausting. Most evenings, I cook dinner at home, partly to save money and partly because finding affordable, tasty food in Germany isn’t easy. But one day, I was just too tired. My train pulled into Wuppertal Hbf at 6:42 PM, and instead of heading home to cook, I decided to try something new.
That’s when I noticed Hanoi Restaurant near the station. The place looked small but was absolutely packed with people, which immediately caught my attention. Crowds usually mean good food, right? Craving something comforting (and honestly missing Chinese food badly), I decided to give it a shot.
What I Ordered
I ordered their chicken fried rice for takeaway, which cost just €6.45. Considering how expensive eating out in Germany can be, I was pleasantly surprised by the price.
While waiting for my food, I noticed they also offer spring rolls (Frühlingsrollen) and a variety of vegetarian options. The spring rolls looked crispy and golden, and next time, I’m definitely going to try them. If you’re vegetarian, their menu also has a great selection of dishes to choose from!
Even though the restaurant was busy, my food was ready quickly. The staff, though clearly dealing with a rush, handled everything efficiently.
The Food
When I got home and opened my box of fried rice, I was delighted:
- Portion Size: The portion was HUGE. It was enough for two people, making the €6.45 price feel like a worth it.
- Flavor: The fried rice was perfectly cooked, full of delicious flavors, and packed with tender chicken pieces.
- Extras: They included three different chutneys with the dish, which added a fantastic variety of flavors to the meal.
I’ve already decided that next time, I’ll add a side of those crispy spring rolls. They looked amazing, and the vegetarian options make this a great spot for anyone.
Why Hanoi Stood Out to Me
Here’s why I think Hanoi Restaurant might just serve the best Asian food in Wuppertal:
- Affordable Prices: At €6.45 for a dish as generous and tasty as their chicken fried rice, it’s hard to beat the value.
- Generous Portions: The portion sizes are so big that you can easily share or save some for later.
- Delicious Food: From what I’ve tried so far, the food is comforting, flavorful, and well-prepared.
- Vegetarian-Friendly: With plenty of veggie options and sides like spring rolls, this spot caters to everyone.
- Convenient Location: Right at Wuppertal Hbf, it’s perfect for a quick meal after work or while waiting for a train.
A Little Room for Improvement
The only downside I noticed was that the lady at the counter seemed a bit flustered, likely due to the crowd. But the rest of the staff were polite and efficient, so it didn’t affect the overall experience much.
My Final Thoughts
If you’re in Wuppertal and looking for delicious, budget-friendly Asian food, you need to try Hanoi Restaurant. Whether you’re in the mood for fried rice, crispy spring rolls, or vegetarian dishes, this place has something for everyone.
For me, their chicken fried rice, priced at just €6.45, was the perfect comfort food after a long day. I’m already planning my next visit to try their spring rolls and explore more of their menu.
